If this month's President's Message sounds more like the Social Chairman's Message, there's a reason for it; all the neighborhood events this month had a lot of folks doing a lot of work, and they deserve all the credit they get.
Thanks to the Potrero Hill Association of Merchants and Businesses and the Potrero Hill Archives Project for the 4th Annual Potrero Hill History Night, drawing hundreds of people last Saturday night at the Enola D. Maxwell Middle School of the Arts for interviews with Hill old-timers and multimedia presentations from the Archives Project and Chris Carlsson of Shaping San Francisco. . . .
Thanks to the Potrero Hill Neighborhood House for once again putting on the Potrero Hill Festival on Saturday the 18th, with the traditional pancake breakfast in the morning and a street fair on Southern Heights all day long.
Thanks to the Bay Guardian for donating space for the Merchants' Association Walking Map (distributed all over San Francisco on O! ctober 1) and to Digital Pond for outstanding displays of historic Hill photographs at History Night. . . .
Thanks to the San Francisco Community Power Co-op for their Treasure Trek promotion with neighborhood merchants, and their giveaway of a new energy-saving refrigerator at History Night. . . .
And thanks to Supervisor Sophie Maxwell and her colleagues on the City's Board of Supervisors, for proclaiming October 2003 to be Potrero Hill Month, in recognition of our neighborhood's diversity, pride, and civic involvement!
There are still more public events coming up this month, and the return of the Boosters Holiday party in December; check out the latest list elsewhere on this page.
Between now and March 2004, the Boosters will be seeking new and renewing members in our annual campaign.
Since 1926, the Potrero Boosters have worked to bring better parks, schools, and services to the neighborhood, and to bring the neighbors of Potrero Hill together. We aim to be your voice in the neighborhood, and the neighborhood's voice.
This month's meeting gives you a pretty good idea of the range of our activities: An update from the City's Public Utilities Commission about the proposed new power plants planned for the City. (The PUC promises to have some new information about environmental improvements and other mitigations, including the shutdown of PG&E's old and dirty Hunters Point plant and the cancellation of Mirant's proposed expansion of their old and dirty Potrero plant, after our members' vocal feedback over the past months.)
A presentation from the Trust for Public Lands, about coming improvements for the playground at the Potrero Hill Recreation Center at the top of Arkansas Street. A question & answer session with Sophie Maxwell, Dis! trict 10's supervisor and a firm supporter of Potrero Hill at City Hall.
More details about the Boosters Holiday Party in December, part of our ongoing effort to bring our neighbors together with more social events throughout the year.
So bring a neighbor to the meeting, or show them the list of Issues for 2003 at our website, potreroboosters.org. There's gotta be something on the list that you can work on with us GET INVOLVED, and let's keep the Hill as one of the proudest neighborhoods in the City! Thanks as always for thinking about our organization, and our neighborhood. See you on the Hill!
